Founded in 1957, Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM Hospital of Sichuan Province) was one of the four earliest-established teaching hospitals of TCM universities in China, also an affiliated hospital of a university for National "Double first-class" Discipline Construction. After more than 60 years of construction, our hospital has become a Level A Grade three TCM hospital (the highest level in Chinese hospital classification), which incorporates medical service, teaching, scientific research, disease prevention, health care and health preservation. It is National TCM Clinical Research Base (Diabetes), National Clinical Trial and Research Center for ChineseMateria Medica(GCP), National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Base, National Regional Medical Center output unit, National TCM Epidemic Prevention Base, National High Level TCM Talents’ Training Base, the first batch of National Standardized Training Bases for TCM (general practice of Chinese medicine) Residents, and TCM International Cooperation Base.In the performance evaluation of national public hospitals released in 2021, our hospital ranked the sixth among all national comprehensive TCM hospitals.

Our hospital has 3000 beds. There are 45 clinical departments, 10 medical technology departments, 40 specialist clinics and 64 special disease clinics.In 2021, the outpatient and emergency visit has remained at 2.7 million person times per year, and the inpatient visit has reached up to 70,000 person times per year. Our hospital was approved as one of the first batch of Sichuan Online Hospital and then started online medical service in 2021. At present, we have 22 departments online, and provide convenient prescription service. Patients can visit doctors online, buy medicine online, and receive their medicine at home by express delivery, which successfully realizes the goal of “convenient TCM Service”. We consequently were rated as "demonstration hospital for improving medical services" byBureau of Medical Administrationof National Health Commission of PRC.

Our hospital follows the law of TCM development and pays attention to highlighting TCM characteristics. We have 5 Regional TCM Specialty Diagnosis and Treatment Centers, 6 national key specialties (TCM), and 13 key specialties approved by National Administration of Traditional Chines Medicine. It is National TCM Ophthalmology Medical Center, National TCM Emergency Medical Center, TCM and Integrative Medicine Emergency Clinical Base of National Administration of Traditional Chines Medicine, Infectious Diseases Clinical Base of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Based on key specialties, we have led the establishment of more than 20 alliances of specialty disease in and out Sichuan province, and formed a homogeneous TCM specialty and specialized disease service layout through the overall guideline of point to area, and comprehensive development. The hospital has built a TCM Pharmacy with a daily prescription of 30000 Chinese medicines, and the quality control of processed TCM slices has reached a leading level in TCM system nationwide. We also promote the research and development of preparations. At present, there are 99 registered varieties of hospital preparations, 51 of which are included in the Catalogue of Dispensing Varieties of Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations in Sichuan Medical Institutions (the first batch) jointly released by Sichuan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Sichuan Medical Products Administration, and are used in TCM institutions across the province.

Our hospital pays attention to TCM inheritance, attracts high-quality resources both inside and outside Sichuan province, and trains high-quality TCM talents through multiple ways. As the clinical medical school of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, our hospital takes the teaching work of undergraduate students, postgraduate students, overseas students and the standardized training for residents. Now, there are more than 260 doctoral students, more than 1400 postgraduates, and more than 4000 undergraduates and long-term students. We have 3 national key disciplines, 8 high-level key TCM disciplines of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine，13 key disciplines of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (TCM), 2 national characteristic specialties (Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrative Medicine), 2 first-class doctoral teaching sites (TCM, Integrative Medicine of TCM and WM), 3 post-doctoral mobile stations (TCM Internal Medicine, TCM Emergency and TCM Ophthalmology). We can award doctor’s degree on 7 disciplines and master’s degree on 20 disciplines. Among which, TCM and integrative clinical medicine were selected as national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites. Our hospital is also the first batch of National Standardized Training Base for both TCM residents and TCM Nursing talents. We continue to cultivate high-quality TCM talents with high-quality education, providing support for Healthy China Initiative and the inheritance, innovation and development of TCM. Our hospital also has a provincial full-time secondary vocational school of traditional Chinese medicine, Acupuncture and Moxibustion School of Sichuan Province, with more than 8000 students on campus.

The hospital insists on innovation, focuses on the key links of TCM science and technology, and creates a strong engine for the development of research-based hospitals through platform construction, talent cultivation, mechanism optimization and other measures. It is National TCM Clinical Research Base (Diabetes), National Medicinal Clinical Trial Institution (GCP). We have two provincial clinical medical research centers: "TCM endocrine and metabolic diseases" and "TCM cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases". The first provincial TCM evidence-based platform "Sichuan TCM evidence-based medicine center" was established in our hospital. We have built 1 third-level scientific research laboratory, 3 second-level laboratories, 2 laboratories jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Finance and Sichuan governments, 1 provincial key laboratory, and 1 provincial popular science base. In the past five years, our hospital has undertaken 1323 scientific research projects at all level, including 67 national projects and 12 science and technology progress awards at or above the provincial level. More than 1300 high-quality papers and 56 academic monographs have been published, and 101 patents have been applied, which has strongly promoted the transformation of the hospital into a research one.

Our hospital adheres to the strategy of strengthening the hospital with talents.With a staff of over 2300, we have more than 620 experts withhonorabletitles of all level: Chinese Medicine Master (4), national famous TCM doctors (4), national famous teacher of TCM universities (1), Qi Huang scholar (4),young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions to national health （1）， Cheungkong scholar (1), experts enjoying the special allowances of the State Council (48), academic and technical leaders of Sichuan province (28), Top-10 TCM doctors in Sichuan (15), etc. At the same time, taking the establishment of famous TCM studios as the carrier, we comprehensively implemented the inheritance, development and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, and created a medical teaching and research talent team with strong technical force and strength.

With the further development of the internationalization and spreading of TCM under the "belt and road initiative", we have made great progress in international exchange and cooperation. We have trained more than 5000 professionals on TCM, acupuncture and tuina for over 30 countries and regions. More than 5000 visitors from over 30 countries and regions such as the United States, Germany, Portugal, etc have been received. We have been continuously promoting international cooperation on Chinese medicine. International Cooperation Base (Sichuan) was approved by National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and “Tianfu Cloud Doctor - Telemedicine for Overseas Chinese” was built. In recent years, several branch hospitals have been founded in Montenegro, Germany and Belarus. In 2017, China-Montenegro TCM Center, the second TCM center in Europe officially opened.

At present, our hospital has become a TCM medical center, a science and education center, and a disease prevention center with prominent TCM characteristics, complete clinical disciplines, strong independent innovation ability, higher regional influence, and strong comprehensive strength in the central and western China. Our hospital has won a series of honors such as the national TCM demonstration hospital, the advanced hospital on medical ethics in health sectors nationwide, the national advanced hospital in medical and health system, and the national advanced hospital on TCM emergency, advanced hospital on targeted poverty alleviation.

Our hospital will always take it as its mission to serve the construction of "National Demonstration Area for TCM Comprehensive Reform and a Province Powered by TCM" and create a highland for TCM inheritance and innovation.
